BOUM is an inclusive dance bar on Rue André Poggioli, a side street off Cours Julien in the Plaine quarter. It calls itself a bar culturel and puts LGBTQIA+ artists and cultures at the centre of what it programmes.
The bill changes constantly. Drag shows and drag competitions, Drag Race France viewing parties, karaoke nights hosted by local performers, lip-sync and live singing, and DJ sets covering baile funk, voguing, reggaeton, house, disco and techno. Ticketed nights are usually pay-what-you-want above a floor.
The house rules are published and enforced. Violent, racist, misogynistic, transphobic, fatphobic, whorephobic, ableist, classist and ageist behaviour is not tolerated, there is a written protocol for handling sexual violence, and a shelf by the bar carries harm reduction supplies including condoms. The venue is supported by the Centre National de la Musique. Tables can be booked over WhatsApp.
