About this Event
The thirtieth Marche des Fiertés for Lyon and Villeurbanne sets off from the Gratte-Ciel métro stop in Villeurbanne and covers 3.1 km along the Cours Émile Zola, the Cours Vitton and the Cours Franklin Roosevelt before finishing on place du Maréchal Lyautey in Lyon's sixth arrondissement. The route is tarmac the whole way, with a pause after Charpennes and an association village waiting on the square at the end. The organisers warn that there is little shade before Charpennes and few public toilets along the way.
The Collectif Fiertés en Lutte has organised the Lyon march since 2019 and puts the demands ahead of the party. The slogan this year is "Rentrons en résistance ! Droits pour les putes et droits pour les trans", and the call to march ties the rights of sex workers and trans people to the climate and to the rise of the far right. The June date was given up because of the heat, and October was picked as the only option that kept the march on a Saturday.
Accessibility is planned rather than improvised. There is a Handi cortège, quieter and with masks compulsory, and a calm cortège where masks are advised, each with a vehicle for people with reduced mobility. Ear defenders, ear plugs and FFP2 masks are handed out in both. Speeches are interpreted into French Sign Language and an interpreter walks with the Handi cortège for the whole march. Around twenty Croix-Rouge first aiders and several street medics follow the route.
Some cortèges are non-mixed, reserved for the people whose demands they carry, and the organisers ask that this be respected. Nobody is touched without saying so first, and photographs of people need their consent, with faces blurred before anything is shared.
