L'Etoile Opera is a gay bar near the opera house in Lyon's first arrondissement, a short walk from Place des Terreaux. It has a lounge inside and a terrace on Rue de l'Arbre Sec that stays in use most of the year.
Food is part of the point here. The kitchen does burgers, fries, charcuterie boards and salads alongside a long drinks list, so people come to eat as well as drink. There are billiards, darts and board games.
Themed evenings such as karaoke and bingo are a regular fixture. The crowd is mixed and mostly local, and it is one of the calmer places in the quarter before the clubs pick up.
