The Hôtel Arc en Ciel is a two-star hotel on the route de Sélestat, on the northern edge of Colmar and a short way out from the old town and the canals. It says so itself, which is worth reading: true to its name, which means rainbow, the hotel writes on its own site that it gives a warm and tolerant welcome to people from the LGBTQ+ community, and invites them to holiday here with their partner in peace.
The rooms come in a long ladder of types, from a standard double with a French bed and a standard twin up through comfort, superior, style and elegance to a signature room, with a family room for up to three. It is a proper hotel with a reception rather than a house with a spare room.
What it is really built for is arriving by your own transport. Parking is private and free, for cars and for motorbikes, there are charging points for electric cars at a charge, there is room for a coach if a group comes, and bicycles go in a locked store with somewhere to wash them. There is a shaded terrace to sit on.
Colmar is the base for the wine road, the Route des Crêtes over the Vosges and the Christmas markets, and the hotel writes its own guides to all three.
