Domaine de la Porte de Fer is a guest house on a 14-hectare estate of vines and pine woods on a hillside above Carcassonne, looking across to the medieval Cité. The Cité is about 20 minutes on foot through the vineyards, or three minutes by car.
There are five guest rooms, each with a 160 cm double bed, its own bathroom and late 19th-century furniture and decoration, looking over the pool and the valley. A separate guest apartment is let as well.
The grounds include a formal French garden laid out in terraces. There is a large pool, and the pool house holds a sauna and a fully equipped fitness room. Dinner is served at the table d'hôtes.
