ARCU - LGBTI+ Corsica

Community in Bastia, France

About

ARCU - LGBTI+ Corsica is the LGBTQIA+ association for the whole island, and Bastia is where it is based. It was declared in 2019 and works on two fronts at once: practical support for individual people, and public visibility for a community that stays largely out of sight in Corsica.

The everyday work is information and mutual aid. The association runs a discussion group, answers questions from people thinking about coming out or dealing with harassment, points people towards sympathetic healthcare, and has sat in on court proceedings in LGBTphobia cases. It also puts on social events, so that queer people on the island have somewhere to meet each other.

Its most visible project is the Corsican Pride march, which it has organised every year since 2023. The 2025 edition took more than 200 people through Bastia, from Place d'Armes along the Vieux-Port to Place Saint-Nicolas. The march moves between the two main cities, and the 2026 edition was held in Ajaccio. The association also screens films with cinemas on the island under the name cinem'arcu.

There is no drop-in centre and no public premises. The association works across the whole of Corsica and gives Bastia as its base.
