Yöhuikka is the only gay bar in Oulu, and one of very few in Finland outside Helsinki, Turku and Tampere. It stands on Asemakatu in the city centre, a few minutes from the market square, and it works as a weekend club rather than an everyday bar.
There are two floors. The dance floor and the disco are downstairs. Upstairs is a quieter bar with nostalgic fittings, among them carousel horses that came from Crazy Horse, an Oulu bar that closed years ago. Karaoke belongs to the night as much as the dancing does. Entry is free and the door is 18 and over.
Sexual minorities in the city settled on the place around the turn of the millennium, and it has been the centre of queer nightlife in Oulu ever since. The crowd is mixed and mostly local.
