US Video is an adult shop on Malminkatu in Kamppi, directly behind the Radisson Blu Royal hotel, with a deliberately discreet door onto the street. The Helsinki branch opened in October 2009; the company had traded in Sweden since 1997.
The shop runs to over 300 square metres and more than 18,000 DVDs, split into straight and gay sections, alongside toys and erotic clothing. Behind it is a multi-channel cabin system, with two 32-inch screens and cinema seating per cabin and a library in the thousands of titles.
The part that puts the shop in the Finnish LGBT service directory rather than just the phone book is the NonStop cruising area: cabins, two big-screen cinemas, toilets, vending machines and a free internet terminal. The shop's own slogan, in Helsinki slang, is Stadin pahin, roughly the worst in town, which tells you the tone.
