X-Baar

Bars in Tallinn, Estonia

About

X-Baar is known as the oldest gay bar in Estonia and one of the most iconic LGBTQ+ nightlife spots in Tallinn. Open since 1998, it has long served as a welcoming meeting place for queer locals, travellers and allies. The venue features two bars, a spacious dance floor and cosy seating areas, making it suitable for relaxed drinks early in the evening or dancing late into the night.

Situated near Freedom Square in the heart of the city, X-Baar attracts a mixed crowd drawn by its friendly atmosphere, music and inclusive vibe. There is no cover charge, which makes it easy to drop in for a casual drink, mingle and soak up the local LGBTQ+ scene. On weekends the energy is lively and the bar often hosts music, themed nights and social groups.

Whether you are visiting Tallinn to explore the city’s medieval old town by day or seek queer nightlife by night, X-Baar offers a classic, historic spot that embodies the local scene.

Incredibly warm and friendly bartender and locals. Good spot if you like to go to a relaxed gay bar earlier in the day. Not sure what it is like later but that’s not why we went. Would give 6/5 if I could!

I had the privilege of attending their 24th anniversary.

To set your expectations:
1. There won’t be a lot of people (but the people who are there are very nice).
2. Make conversation don’t wait to be approached.

I went on one of their busiest nights and had a great time. But I made an effort to make it happen.

Definitely visit and grab a drink - people are friendly.

The oldest running gay bar in Estonia and one of two.

Where to start.... This venue has such a big potential, it's spacious and has a good AC. But the music :-( Half of the Saturday crows were 50+ and the venue plays sad slow ballads. We were worried that if some older clients died, nobody would notice! Zero energy. 10 seconds gap between songs! Need to care more about the music! Please 🙏🏻
