SLM Aarhus is a members' club for men, and it describes itself as the only gay venue in the city that is exclusively so. It has run since 1978, from a ground floor space at Østbanetorvet by the eastern station.
It began as a club for men into men and into motorcycles, and the fetish side is still the core. The interest groups cover leather craft, bondage, uniforms, fisting and bikes. Guests are encouraged to wear their gear, though there is no dress code on ordinary club nights. On those nights the house rule is that guests appear masculine, and men in women's clothing are turned away.
The premises run over two floors, with the bar taking up a good part of the ground floor and relaxation and action rooms beyond it. Music, video screens and TV areas fill the rest of roughly a hundred and forty five square metres.
Membership is required and can be arranged on a first visit, either as a weekend card or as a shorter trial membership that later upgrades to full membership, which also gives access to partner clubs elsewhere in Scandinavia. Everything, the bar included, is run by unpaid volunteers. Discretion about who else is in the building is a house rule, as is safe sex. Ragnarok in summer and the WTF fetish nights are the club's own fixtures, and it takes part in Aarhus Pride.
