FØNiKS is the queer pop-up bar in Aarhus. It has no address of its own: the crew takes over the venue room at the culture house Frontløberne on Mejlgade, runs a night there, and packs up again afterwards.
It exists because Kromosom closed. That bar had taken bar of the year at the Danish Rainbow Awards and shut in late 2022, and the same people brought it back in this lighter form. The name is the point, a phoenix out of the ashes, and the first night was in January 2024 with DJs and a drag show.
What happens varies from one night to the next. Drag bingo, club nights with local DJs, and quieter evenings closer to a bar than a party. It is volunteer-run and organised as an association, and it is aimed at the queer community broadly rather than at men.
Nights are not weekly, so it is worth knowing the dates before travelling for one.
