Villa Vida is the cafe, bar and restaurant on the ground floor of the Tuerkis Rosa Lila Villa, the queer house on the Linke Wienzeile that has served as a counselling, housing and information centre since 1982. The cafe itself opened in 2019.
The kitchen leans vegetarian and the drinks list runs to proper cocktails, but the point of the place is the room rather than the menu. Drag nights, bingo, workshops, readings and community meetings fill most of the calendar, and a lot of them are free to attend.
There is a guest garden, which is the part regulars talk about. It is the closest thing Vienna has to a queer living room that is open to anyone walking in off the street.
