Cafe Savoy has stood on the Linke Wienzeile since 1897, opposite the Naschmarkt, and the room still looks the part. High ceilings, dark wood, brass, and tall wall mirrors the house describes as among the largest in the city.
By day it works as an ordinary Viennese coffeehouse. Newspapers on sticks, Melange, Viennese breakfast, schnitzel and goulash from the kitchen. In the evening the crowd turns predominantly gay, which it has done for decades, and the place is one of the fixed points of the Naschmarkt scene.
There is a terrace on the street in summer. The room is big enough that a table of six and a person reading alone both fit without either feeling out of place.
